A low scoring encounter at The Glebe saw West Mersea seconds prevail in dramatic circumstances. Batting first Mersea struggled against a lively GBT attack led by Jamie Phillips who returned 4 for 18. No less than five Mersea batsmen suffered a duck as Mersea limped to 100 all out in the 33rd over. James Tilsley top scored with 29 for the islanders, and there was some lusty late order batting from Dominic Fuller who bashed 28. Nod Goodridge also kept his head whilst everyone else was losing theirs with an unbeaten 16 from his number four berth.

GBT seemed to be cruising to victory reaching 70 for 4 by the 25th over, this despite economic spells from Dominic Fuller, Tom Sanderson and Trevor Vince. The game then turned dramatically as five wickets fell for seven runs to reduce the visitors to 77 for 9. Chris Storrar had taken 3 for 15, but the real Mersea hero was part time bowler James Tilsley who took five wickets for 10 runs in his first five overs. David Lamming (10) and P Buchheister (10*) then inched the visitors closer to victory with a 21 run 10th wicket partnership before Tilsley bowled Lamming to claim match winning figures of 6 for 24, and see Mersea to the narrowest of victories.
